Under the Spindle with Iftikhar Bhai: The Master Craftsman Who Taught Me Respect for the Cut

You can study mechanical engineering equations for four years in a university lecture hall, but until you stand next to a master craftsman like **Iftikhar Bhai** in a sawdust-filled workshop in Sector F-11 Islamabad, you do not truly understand manufacturing.
Iftikhar Bhai was my mentor and boss. A senior authority on precision routing and woodcraft, he did not tolerate theoretical excuses.
### The Language of the Machine
Iftikhar Bhai taught me that a CNC router speaks constantly if you have the discipline to listen:
- The vibration in your hand resting on the gantry tells you if the stepover is too aggressive.
- The color and shape of the chip tell you if the bit is cutting or burnishing.
- The smell of the exhaust air tells you if a collet bearing is overheating.
When I coded our first automated CAM post-processor, I proudly showed him how fast it generated toolpaths. He looked at the screen, walked to the machine, picked up a piece of scrap Sheesham, and pointed out a $0.05\text{ mm}$ chatter wave along the edge: *"Ali, the code is only as good as the finish on the wood. The customer touches the wood, not your screen."*
That standard of uncompromising tactile quality governs every line of code I ship today.
