Architecting Virtual Battles: Scripting Complex Scenarios in Age of Mythology at Age 10

Long before I wrote production C# or Python, my early coding sandbox was the custom Scenario Editor in **Age of Mythology**.
At age ten, I spent hundreds of hours designing massive custom multi-faction campaign maps with intricate event-driven triggers:
- If a hero unit enters Region A, spawn three minotaurs and change player diplomatic stance to Hostile.
- If temple health drops below 25%, initiate a countdown timer and flash ambient lightning.
### The Early Introduction to State Machines
Age of Mythology trigger scripting was my first practical exposure to:
1. **Event Listeners:** Polling conditions on every simulation tick.
2. **Boolean Logic:** Combining `AND` / `OR` conditional gates.
3. **State Transitions:** Transitioning armies between patrol, guard, and berserk states.
When you learn programming through game design, code is never dry syntax—it is a living, responsive world waiting to react to inputs.
