4. Watch the slow progress bar format the disk.

This childhood obsession instilled a deep appreciation for deterministic state: operating systems are not magical black boxes; they are structured, predictable hierarchies of bootloaders, kernel initializers, driver stacks, and user-space shells. When you understand how the foundation boots, debugging higher-level software becomes second nature.
